Якщо чесно, до кінця не подужала. Я не розуміюся на культовості, нагородах і т.д, бо розтягнутий на багато-багато сторінок один день героя із потугами самоаналізу я не змогла дочитати, мені просто стало нудно. Може, я недостатньо витончена для того натура, хто знає. Барселона там лише номінально.

А ось ця книга була винагородою за попередні дві. Навіть не віриться, що автор - адвокат, який раніше нічого і не писав до пуття. А тут цеглина на 750 сторінок, яку легко проковтнути і не помітити. Написана легкою і зрозумілою мовою сага не видається ні затягнутою, ні нудною, навпаки. Не без певного історичного підґрунтя, зі страшенно цікавими подробицями життя Каталонії і Барселони, не знаю, кому як, але рівень enjoyment-а зашкалює. Дякую красно , що нагадала, бо я колись про книгу чула, але не знайшла одразу і забула. А даремно. Опис натякає на якусь сопливу романтичну сагу у історичних декораціях, і про любов там буде, не без цього, але це далеко не головне. І мені вже аж шило в одному місті свербить побачити Санта-Марію дель Мар на власні очі.

А ось ця книжка про пиво значно живіша, ніж попередня, історії в ній теж багато, але більше англійської, ніж американської, вона значно легше й цікавіше йде, можливо тому, що автор піднімає питання саме пошуку душі пива, сенсу, і порівнює теплі дружні посиденьки у пабі з самотнім сидінням з банкою пива перед телевізором. Дуже багато неочікуваних фактів з історії, хімії, людської психології, всіляко рекомендую. Страшенно люблю Ффорде. Його серія про Thursday Next (не знаю, як там росіяни переклали) свого часу мене дуже потішила, треба взагалі всією бібліографією товариша запастися, але "Відтінки сірого" - це щось. Дуже незвичайний світ, антиутопія у всій свій красі, як завжди з кілограмами алюзій і посилань на сучасний світ, тонких і товстих, Ффорде просто красунчик. Я не знаю, як можна було вигадати світ з кастами на основі кольоросприйняття, але ось, маємо. Щоправда, десь у процесі читання щось здавалося мені нелогічним, але я вже цього не пам"ятаю - дуже швидко пішов увесь роман. Я аж гикнула, коли виявилося, що сторінка була останньою, і тепер невідомо скільки чекати ще мінімум двох томів. Якщо ви не з когорти терплячих - навіть не починайте читати. Кристофер Прист "Престиж" Смертельное сотрудничество двух иллюзионистов конца XIX в. дает всходы в наши дни. От двойников, близнецов и дубликатов шагу некуда ступить. Безумные теории пионера электротехники Никола Теслы приносят самые неожиданные плоды. А престиж - это совсем не то, что вы подумали. Коли я подивилася фільм, знятий по книзі, я була під враженням. Під таким одночасно захопленим і дуже депресивним. Але то мої таргани. Насправді, фільм - це дуже приблизний переспів, книга більше фантастична і неоднозначна (хоча, здавалося б - куди там), але так само з відкритим фіналом, щоправда, іншого штибу, ніж в екранізації. Взагалі, цікаво, але винятково у вигляді фантастичної історії, але мені такі і подобаються, особливо, коли в процесі висвітлюються особливості якоїсь професії. А професія престидижитатора - це професія, чи все життя?

Но все эти истории, едва уместившиеся в один толстый том, - всего лишь крошечный осколок реальности, зыбкой, переменчивой, ненадежной и благословенной, как океан.

Уперше мені не пішли реальності Фрая. Аж дивно. Але, може, просто ще не час саме для цих, хоча зав"язка дуже цікава.
