Напруга, гра з уявним, невидимим, і темрявою, туманні ландшафти десь у глибокій британській провінції, приперчені добрячою вигадливістю – ось суміш, з якої складається ця історія. Додайте сюди старовинні фото, всі з яких – реальні, і отримаєте ще одну плюшку. В цілому, я отримала величезне задоволення, читаючи «Дім для незвичайних дітей», але наприкінці почала дуже сильно гніватися, бо стало зрозуміло, що цією книжкою справа не обмежиться. Тепер чекай, поки товариш Ріґґс (дебютант на літературній лаві, між іншим), розродиться продовженням. І це єдиний ґандж, всіляко рекомендую тим, хто не лізе на стінки в очікуванні продовження книжок.

У цій книжці під однією обкладинкою були дві невеличкі новели – про дівчинку і “The stuff that nightmares are made of”. Якщо перша - романтична наукова фантастика (уявити собі, 1967 рік!), то друга – радше психологічний дитячий трилер, у якого явно ноги ростуть із того ж місця, що і у «Паприки», яку я теж тепер хочу почитати. Взагалі, було цікаво подивитися на першоджерело одного з моїх улюблених аніме. В цілому, любителям японської культури буде цікаво, особливо другий твір, але не надто в тому обізнаним теж можна вживати.

Взагалі, книжка, наскільки я розумію, автобіографічна, з цікавими думками і поглядами на життя, але я вам кажу, ця жінка – свята, або до безтями закохана у свого шаленого фермера, бо витримати те, крізь що вона пройшла у перший рік заручин – це просто героїчний вчинок. Дуже багато цікавої інформації про фермерство, будівництво, тварин і т.д. Дуже багато про те, як складно все це дається. Людям, які задумуються про переїхати в хатку зустрічати кінець світу дуже рекомендується, як отверезвлююче чтиво, хоча, тим, хто збирається, це навряд чи допоможе.

Ще раз мені наука – не тягати книжок без описів, прочитавши лише назву. Думала, буде щось типу шефомемуарів, а виявилося mom-porn в форматі FMM.

Є ще психи-любителі, поділитися з кимось?:) Шоста і сьома книжки серії про Наступний Четвер – це як завжди, тонкий гумор, блискучі метафори і посилання. Сьома в рамках «грядущєга армагєдона» буде дуже актуальною – там теж про щось подібне. Але чорт, я ніяк не звикну до думки, що Четвер все старішає і старішає, а уявляти її сивою жіночкою з паличкою взагалі важко. Але чорт, звідки у Форде в голові всі ці речі?! Він геніальний. Обожнюю.

Абсолютно випадкове і непересічне відкриття. Автор – людина надзвичайно цікавої долі, і книжки у нього мандрівно-біографічні. Після того, як він приєднався до Корпусу миру, і вчителював у Малаві і Уганді, писав статті і оповіді. Викладав у Сингапурі, а потім переїхав до Великобританії. Говорить 6ма мовами. І от після цього він вирушає поїздом (!) до Китаю. Дуже цікаво дивитися на країни епохи перебудови очима іноземця. Це саме 1986 рік, Пол проїжджає Росію, коли вибухає Чорнобильська АС. У Китає все стає з ніг на голову після Культурної революції. Звісно, зараз все зовсім інакше, але тим не менш, ці подорожні нотатки страшенно цікаві.

Я не знаю, чи це можна назвати дитячою книжкою. Зараз взагалі багато дитячої літератури, присвяченої єврейському питанню і ІІ світовій, і мені важко оцінити її вагу і корисність. Так, є речі, які люди повинні знати і пам’ятати, але в моїй уяві діти все ще (як не дивно) лишаються тендітними рослинами, яким не конче одразу видавати на гора інформацію про те, як нищили тисячі людей. Але це, можливо, мої особисті таргани, бо я б в дитинстві не хотіла б таке читати. Прочитала за рекомендаціями, підкріпленими чисельними винагородами і медалями в галузі дитячої літератури. Важка вона інколи, ця дитяча література…
